The first speaker to be announced, speaking on day 1, is Dr Scott Pedley, a Senior Lecturer in Ecology at Manchester Metropolitan University. He specialises in understanding how patterns of community composition and physiological traits can be used to aid landscape-scale restoration, management and species conservation. His research interests reach across multiple taxa, but he has a particular interest in invertebrates and uses these as bioindicators of landscape change. He has previously worked in eastern England investigating the management of plantation forestry for open habitat heathland species of conservation concern and continues these themes today in other environments. Through traditional taxonomic approaches, alongside landscape modelling and functional trait-based analysis, he aims to investigate changing landscapes and improve conservation outcomes.
